Who was Rumi?

Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī was a Sufi mystic and Persian poet. He was born in 1207 in Balkh (present-day Afghanistan) and later migrated to Konya, Turkey, where he died in 1273. His poetry is renowned for its passionate experience of the inner self and spirituality. Rumi expresses transcendental feeling in many ways – through lyrics of love, natural imagery, Islamic narratives, and storytelling, while also weaving in earthliness and human experience. Many have been captured by the wisdom and soul-soothing quality of his verse. This is a place to discover some of the poems of Rumi.
